Digital Nomad to Digital Native

For three years, I was the quintessential digital nomad. Beach in Bali on Monday, cafe in Kyoto by Friday.

The plan was to take a jeep tour across the Gobi Desert. A true disconnect. Just me, a guide, and the vast emptiness.

On day two, a freak sandstorm breached my supposedly weather-proof backpack. When I cracked open my laptop that evening, the screen was a collage of dead pixels, and the keyboard yielded crunching sounds. It wouldn’t boot.

When we finally reached a town with an internet cafe ten days later, the first thing I felt wasn’t relief. It was a profound reluctance to log back in.
